Valencia and Athletic Bilbao to draw @ 11/5

This fixture produced two draws last season and we’re anticipating another close contest in our La Liga predictions. Valencia are coming off a couple of defeats but were competitive against both Real Madrid and Sevilla after previously picking up 10 points out of 12. Bilbao will have been disappointed to lose for the first time this term when conceding a stoppage-time sickener versus Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday but were unbeaten in five earlier outings, including stalemates with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Sevilla to beat Espanyol @ 3/5

Los Rojiblancos are unbeaten this term and have netted three times in each of their domestic home matches, seeing off Rayo Vallecano in the opening round of fixtures and Valencia on Wednesday night. Erik Lamela has caught the eye since joining from Tottenham over the summer, while former Wolves forward Rafa Mir and ex-Borussia Dortmund midfielder Thomas Delaney also look shrewd recruits as Julen Lopetegui adds strength in depth to his squad. Espanyol are coming off a first win versus Alaves but Sevilla should prove too strong at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Real Madrid to beat Villarreal @ 1/2

The Whites are clearly enjoying being back at the Bernabeu, judged on the opening two outings at their refurbished famous home. Celta Vigo were beaten 5-2 here a couple of weeks ago and Mallorca were hammered 6-1 in midweek. Karim Benzema netted five times in those games and Marco Asensio hit a hat-trick on Wednesday. Villarreal will travel to the capital with an unbeaten record to protect, drawing four times before a 4-1 drubbing of Elche, but Carlo Ancelotti can continue a hot start to his second stint as Real boss.
