Arsenal have made the most of a favourable run of fixtures to climb the Premier League table but face a much tougher test at Anfield on Saturday evening.
The Gunners have won six matches during an eight-game unbeaten league run and are up to fifth but they did not face a top-six team in that time.
They lost 2-0 to Chelsea and 5-0 at Manchester City earlier in the campaign so a home win by more than one goal at 23/20 is our opening Liverpool vs Arsenal prediction.
They threw away a two-goal lead as they were held to a 2-2 draw at home against Brighton before losing 3-2 at West Ham, who leapfrogged them in the table.
Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to be overly concerned given it is only a few weeks since they enjoyed back-to-back 5-0 wins at Watford and Manchester United.
The Reds have been unusually easy to break down though, conceding at least two goals in four of their last six matches.
That will give Arsenal hope of causing problems and while we still expect them to be beaten, 165/100 for both teams to score in a home win appeals in the Liverpool vs Arsenal odds.
Last Liverpool line-up: Alisson, Van Dijk, Robertson, Matip, Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mane, Salah, Jota.
Captain Jordan Henderson and defender Andy Robertson face late fitness tests after returning from international duty with minor issues.
Forward Sadio Mane has recovered from the bruised ribs sustained playing for Senegal but the longer-term injury list includes Roberto Firmino (hamstring), Joe Gomez (calf), Curtis Jones (eye), Harvey Elliott (ankle) with James Milner and Naby Keita (both hamstring) closest to returning next week.
It is easy to forget that Arsenal were bottom of the Premier League in September such has been the upturn in their fortunes.
Mikel Arteta’s men lost their opening three matches but back-to-back 1-0 wins against Norwich and Burnley sparked their season into life.
It is hard not to think their fixture list has played a part in their improvement though and we need more evidence to believe Arsenal are genuine top-four contenders this season.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles is happy with the turnaround but has warned his team-mates about letting their new-found standards drop off.
“We have got to be realistic about it and we don’t want to slip back into our old ways,” he said.
“So we are pretty head-focused on not trying to lose games and win more games at the same time – hence the good run of unbeaten games.
“We just need to grow in confidence and keep it as a basic standard for us to compete in every game.”
Liverpool did the double over the Gunners last season, winning 3-1 at Anfield last September and 3-0 at the Emirates in April.
We’re happy to back another 3-1 win for the Reds at 19/2 as the last of our Liverpool vs Arsenal betting tips.
Last Arsenal line-up: Ramsdale, White, Gabriel, Tomiyasu, Tavares, Saka, Smith Rowe, Maitland-Niles, Lokonga, Lacazette, Aubameyang.
Arsenal could be without striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and midfielder Thomas Partey.
The Gunners will also continue to be without defender Sead Kolasinac and midfielder Granit Xhaka with a left ankle and knee ligament injury respectively.
