Manchester United are 7/4 with bwin to sign James Maddison during the current transfer window, but Leicester insist he is staying put.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is known to be a big admirer of the England international, who joined the Foxes from Norwich for around £20million in June 2018.
Newspaper reports suggested the Red Devils were prepared to offer Jesse Lingard in part exchange, but City boss Brendan Rodgers has ruled out any swift exit.
“James is a very talented player and he will be here in January and beyond,” declared Rodgers.
“He’s a player we’re keen to remain here and help us on this journey over the next years.
“James and his representatives are speaking with the club, which is great.
“These things take time but his level has not dropped. He is playing at a really high level.”
Pogba operation successful
Meanwhile, in other Man Utd transfer news, Paul Pogba has eased out to Evens to join Real Madrid this month after having surgery on his ankle injury.
The 26-year-old France midfielder has made only eight appearances this season in a campaign blighted by problems.
Pogba’s agent recently sent out mixed messages with regards his future at Old Trafford, but he is now expected to be out for another four weeks.
“Everything went well,” Pogba said. “We have to keep the positive energy.”
With Scott McTominay also sidelined, United are being linked with several other midfielders to help fill the void.
Solskjaer does at least believe United can still attract big-name signings, despite faltering on the field of play in recent years.
He said: “We are still in our own heads the biggest club in the world, so of course we want to get back to where we were.
“You have to go for it at this club, that’s what we are here for, to take on the challenges that are given to us.
“We are Man United. We have been up and we’ve been down, but we’ve always come back.”
