Liverpool know their quest for a first Premier League triumph since 1990 has to get off to a flying start and that is bad news for promoted Norwich.
The Reds came agonisingly close to ending their title drought last term and will be desperate to hit the ground running as they seek to topple Manchester City.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were unbeaten at Anfield in this competition and 11 of their 17 victories here were achieved without conceding.
Punters can get 4/5 for a home win to nil in this game and that is our opening Liverpool vs Norwich prediction.
A Look At Liverpool’s Betting Odds
Liverpool ended up just a point behind City and could do little more than win their last nine top-flight fixtures.
The Reds then received ample compensation for that near-miss by lifting the Champions League trophy, famously beating Barcelona 4-0 at this venue in the semis before seeing off Tottenham in the Madrid decider.
Klopp seems content to rely on the same star players, with Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino again forming a strong spine.
Fulham youngster Harvey Elliott and 17-year-old Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg have come in as prospects for the future, while former West Ham goalkeeper Adrian will provide back-up to Alisson following the departure of Simon Mignolet.
“I’m happy with the team, we are really happy,” said the German. “I’m really looking forward to the season, it will be really exciting again.”
Despite missing out on more silverware due to a penalty shoot-out loss to City in the Community Shield, Liverpool arguably had the better of the chances and struck the frame of the goal twice before equalising for a 1-1 draw in normal time.
“Football-wise, the second half was just really, really good, the best way you can play against City,” said Klopp. “Having the amount of chances we had is a very good sign for us, absolutely.”
Looking at the Liverpool vs Norwich odds, we like 6/1 for a smooth 2-0 success to start the ball rolling.
A Look At Norwich City’s Betting Odds
Norwich are not accustomed to losing themselves, though, having been unbeaten in their last 14 Championship games, helping them top the table by five points.
The Canaries play the kind of football which should serve them well at a higher level and 30-goal striker Teemu Pukki will take chances if given the right service.
Daniel Farke has added some solid, rather than spectacular signings to his squad, but that fits in well with the team spirit ethos he has instilled at the club.
Ralf Fahrmann has arrived on loan from Schalke and Switzerland striker Josip Drmic joined on a free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach, while West Ham right-back Sam Byram is another recruit.
Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts could be the most interesting addition, though, as the 22-year-old earned rave reviews during a successful two-year loan spell at Celtic and is also keen to impress in a season with the Canaries.
City can take heart from their exploits against Liverpool when they were last in the Premier League four seasons ago, drawing 1-1 at Anfield before only losing 5-4 at Carrow Road.
However, this has to be regarded as a baptism of fire for the current side and 5/2 they trail 1-0 at half-time is added to our Liverpool vs Norwich betting tips.
LIVERPOOL 1-1 Man City (4-5 on pens) – Joel Matip
Aston Villa 1-2 NORWICH – Teemu Pukki, Mario Vrancic
Head-to-head: Norwich 4-5 Liverpool, Liverpool 1-1 Norwich
