Premier League predictions, football

Burnley to win at Newcastle @ 3.10

Newcastle failed to beat fellow strugglers Norwich in midweek after a 1-1 draw left them still waiting for a first win of the season. They now face another of their relegation rivals and are under huge pressure to break their duck but they will be without Ciaran Clark after his early red card. Burnley are in trouble themselves but have gone five matches unbeaten, with a win against Brentford and draw at Chelsea in that run. A 0-0 draw at Wolves on Wednesday was another solid effort and they look good value as the underdogs at St James’ Park to kick off our Premier League predictions.

Southampton and Brighton to draw @ 3.20

No team in the Premier League has drawn more matches than Brighton this season and they shared the points again on Wednesday when Neal Maupay grabbed a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw at West Ham. That was Brighton’s seventh draw in the last nine matches and the lack of a ruthless streak means their matches are usually close contests. The same could also be said of Southampton who have drawn four out of their seven home matches following a 2-2 draw with Leicester in midweek so these south-coast rivals are hard to split.

Liverpool to win at Wolves @ 1.42

There is no stopping Liverpool at the moment after they thrashed city rivals Everton 4-1. In maintaining their current Premier League average of three goals per game, Jurgen Klopp’s side became the first top-flight English team to score at least twice in 18 successive fixtures in all competitions. Mo Salah’s figures continue to be equally impressive as his double, after Jordan Henderson’s opener, made it 19 goals in as many appearances. Wolves are yet to face any of the top three this season and we fear the worst for them.

Man City to win at Watford @ 1.18

City are also on a hot streak and made it six wins out of seven in the Premier League after beating Aston Villa 2-1. Bernardo Silva is “the best” player around at the moment according to City boss Pep Guardiola and although Salah and his supporters may disagree, there is no doubting the Portuguese star has kept City on the right track in the absence of Kevin De Bruyne. Watford have stunned Manchester United and Everton recently but are unlikely to be a match for City.

Tottenham to beat Norwich @ 1.40

Teemu Pukki grabbed a vital equaliser for Norwich at Newcastle but their failure to beat opponents who were down to 10 men after just nine minutes is a concern. The Canaries have certainly improved under Dean Smith and are unbeaten in four matches after a favourable run of fixtures but this is the toughest test since Smith took over from Daniel Farke. Tottenham have been inconsistent this season but should have the quality to win this one as the last of our Premier League predictions this weekend.
