Senegal got the nod in our pre-tournament Africa Cup of Nations preview, but Algeria have already beaten them 1-0 during the pool stage in Egypt.

With both teams coming through dramatic semi-final victories, everything points towards this being another close encounter in our book.

Two of the last four finals have gone to penalties and 19/10 for at least extra-time to be needed again here is our opening Senegal vs Algeria prediction.

A Look At Senegal’s Betting Odds

Senegal progressed as runners-up from Group C, thanks to beating Tanzania 2-0 and Kenya 3-0 either side of that loss to the Desert Foxes.

The Lions of Teranga then claimed 1-0 wins over Uganda and Benin, with Liverpool star Sadio Mane and Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye grabbing the goals.

In the semis, Ferjani Sassi missed a penalty for Tunisia and Henri Saivet did likewise for Senegal, as the game finished goalless at the end of normal time.

Another potential spot-kick was ruled out via VAR late on after Salif Sane headed the ball against Idrissa Gueye’s arm and Aliou Cisse’s men enjoyed more good fortune during the additional half an hour.

A mistake by Tunisia goalkeeper Mouez Hassen in the 100th minute saw the ball bounce off the head of defender Dylan Bronn and trickle into the net.

Manager Cisse said: “I played in the final in 2002 as a player and now I am here as a coach, so I’m very proud.

“I feel honoured to achieve history with this amazing team, because we have not qualified for the final in 17 years.”

Looking at the Senegal vs Algeria odds, we like 14/5 for the scores to be level at half-time and full-time.

A Look At Algeria’s Betting Odds

As well as edging out Senegal via a 49th-minute Youcef Belaili strike, Algeria also beat Kenya 2-0 and Tanzania 3-0 during the pool stage.

In the knockout rounds, the Desert Foxes brushed aside Guinea 3-0, before shading Ivory Coast in a shoot-out after a 1-1 stalemate.

Extra-time again looked on the cards in the semis, when Nigeria forward Odion Ighalo cancelled out William Troost-Ekong’s own goal from the spot.

However, Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez curled in an injury-time free-kick from just outside the area to send Algeria through.

Head coach Djamel Belmadi said: “We deserved to be further ahead after an amazing first half, but we were under pressure in the second period.

“After the penalty, my players showed great attitude and mental strength to come back.”

The Desert Foxes have been the most impressive outfit over the whole tournament, with Mahrez and Napoli midfielder Adam Ounas scoring three times each, while Galatasaray playmaker Sofiane Feghouli has also caught the eye.

It would be no surprise to see them lift the trophy and 9/1 they do that after a penalty shoot-out is added to our Senegal vs Algeria betting tips.
