We’ve taken a look at the draw for this summer’s tournament in Russia and have some early World Cup 2018 final predictions regarding which two teams will meet in the decider.
All roads lead to Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on July 15 and, if everything goes to plan, we reckon countries from Europe and South America will square up that evening.
Bwin is already offering odds on who will be the finalists and we’re snapping up 12/1 for it to be Germany and Brazil in our World Cup 2018 final betting tips.
Punters can also back individual teams to go all the way and here’s why we’re sticking with these selections:
Germany @ 9/4
Die Mannschaft were crowned champions for the fourth time in Brazil four years ago and have continued to flourish since then.
Long-serving boss Joachim Low took his side to the Euro 2016 semis, before prevailing at last year’s Confederations Cup with a youthful squad.
We can’t see Germany failing to finish top of Group F, which also features Mexico, Sweden and South Korea.
They would then be scheduled to face the runners-up in Group E, with Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia set to fight it out for second place behind Brazil.
Waiting for Germany in the quarter-finals could be the Group H winners, predicted to be Colombia, or the Group G runners-up – presumably England or Belgium.
Spain or Argentina may be the semi-final opponents, as the holders seek to reach a ninth decider.
Brazil @ 12/5
The Selecao were going well on home turf in 2014 until it all fell apart in a 7-1 semi-final drubbing by Germany, so they will be keen to avoid the champions for as long as possible this time.
That scenario should be on the cards if they can prevail in a pretty moderate pool.
In the first knockout round, we’re hoping Brazil will end up tackling a team which finished second behind Die Mannschaft.
Next up would then be either the winner of England and Belgium’s group, or the Group H runners-up – potentially Poland.
Brazil’s opponents at the last-four stage may then be Uruguay, who they beat 4-1 away in March 2017 en route to winning the South American qualifying section by 10 points, or France.
Obviously, plenty of things can go wrong, but we’re expecting to be previewing Germany vs Brazil when eventually looking at the World Cup 2018 final odds.
That would be a repeat of the 2002 showdown in Japan, when the Selecao won 2-0 to lift the trophy for the fifth time in seven final appearances.
